LAHORE - A session court on Friday dismissed bail application of Shaheen Air Pilot Asmat Mehmood in crash landing case.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Masood Warriach heard the bail application filed by the accused pilot. During the hearing, the petitioner's counsel submitted that aircraft crash landing was an accident. He said the charges leveled against the accused pilot was not justified by facts of the case and the statements of witnesses.
He pleaded the court to grant benefit of bail to the accused. However, the prosecution opposed the request and submitted that the accused had endangered lives of 120 people on-board the aircraft.
He said that the accused was drunk and his negligence could have resulted into loss of lives of passengers. The court after hearing arguments of both parties dismissed the bail application.
Sarwar Road police had registered a case against the pilot on Civil Aviation Authority's complaint. At least 10 passengers were injured when the plane crash-landed. Carrying 121 passengers and crew, the plane reportedly touched down heavily causing its tyres to burst and skid off the runway.
Passengers suffered minor injuries when hand-carry luggage in overhead cabinets fell on them.
