ISLAMABAD - Chief Minister’s Monitoring Force on Tuesday issued an alert warning of attacks on educational institutes in Punjab similar to the one on Bacha Khan University in Charsadda that left 21 people dead.

The ‘emergency and secret’ alert was issued on January 25 directing the law enforcement agencies to beef up security around schools, colleges and universities across Punjab. However, the media was also issued a statement describing the level of threat.

The alert mentioned that 13 suicide bombers associated with outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) have entered into the country from Afghanistan with an intent to carry out attacks. They are being controlled by two commanders named as Umar and Abuzar, it said.

Sources told that the closure of schools in Punjab till January 31, citing ‘severely cold weather’, was also linked with the threat of terrorist attacks. Authorities are pondering as to how the security can be improved in this period.

All departments concerned and officials have been issued directives to bolster security of educational institutes in the wake of threat.
