ISLAMABAD – The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Friday decided to secure arrest warrants for three accused involved in the murder case of MQM leader Dr Imran Farooq.

According to sources, the FIA has decided to secure warrants for the arrest of Altaf Hussain, Iftikhar Hussain and Muhammed Anwar. The warrants will be sought from the local court in Islamabad which will then be sent to England with the help of the Interpol. Altaf Hussain, Iftikhar Hussain and Muhammed Anwar are nominated in the first information report (FIR) of Dr Imran Farooq's murder case.

Earlier the two key-accused in the murder of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Dr Imran Farooq confessed to their crime. Khalid Shamim and Mohsin Ali Syed, recorded their confessional statements before the Magistrate, Captain (r) Shoaib. According to sources, Khalid Shamim, in his statement told the Magistrate about his links with the MQM and that he received orders for killing Imran Farooq from MQM leader Muhammad Anwar in London.

“Then I passed on the order to murder Imran Farooq to others,” he added. The second accused Mohsin Ali Syed also confessed to his direct involvement in the murder of the slain MQM leader. In his statement, Mohsin said that he grabbed Imran Farooq from behind while Kashif Khan Kamran stabbed him multiple times from the front.

In order to make Imran Farooq’s death certain, Kashif also hit him with a brick several times. He said that the plan to execute Imran Farooq was made at a hostel of a London university. The murder plan was finalized after thorough monitoring of Imran Farooq’s daily movements and schedules.

Earlier, the Magistrate asked Khalid Shamim if he was giving this statement under pressure and the latter replied in the negative. Following the confession of murder accused, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has denied any connection with assassination of senior party leader Dr Imran Farooq who was killed in London in 2010.

MQM’s version came a day after two suspects of the murder – Khalid Shamim and Mohsin Ali – pleaded guilty before a magistrate, admitting their role in the high profile murder.
