RAWALPINDI - A doctor engaged in treatment of Swine flu patients himself affected by the same disease in Holy Family Hospital. The test reports of patients along with doctor declared positive.
According to the sources, PG trainee doctor of medicine department Dr Osama who was deputed to give medical treatment to the Swine flu patients in HFH was also affected with same disease.
The sources further revealed that the blood sample of the doctor has sent to National Institute of Health (NIH) for analysis. Form where his test report declared positive. After the report of NIH, his treatment was started immediately by the senior doctors of the hospital and now his condition was improving.
Punjab Health Department has issued directions for vaccination of paramedical staff of all hospitals working in the Swine flu wards including doctors, nurses and others after getting information of affected doctor of HFH.
Presently seven patients affected with Swine flu were admitted in Holy Family hospital. The test reports of two patents have declared positive and reports of other five patients were yet to come.
On the other hand a woman in Lahore has lost her life due to swine flu while at least six more patients have shifted to the Nishtar Hospital in Multan, taking toll to 42 so far.
According to media reports, the hospital management has stated that as many as 20 patients have been tested positive to the disease while reports of 18 others have not been issued yet.
At least 54 people have been affected throughout the province by the illness until now while 100 cases have been reported. Swine flu virus mostly attack weaker and less immune people. It was worth to mention here that in 2009-10, the H1N1 swine flu pandemic spread from central Mexico to 74 other countries including India, killing an estimated 284,000 people, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
More than 2,700 died in India of swine flu between May 2009 and December 2010. Last year, India recorded 218 swine flu-related deaths and 937 cases, down from 2013, when 699 died.
