THE Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has raised the alarm that today’s supplementary governorship election in Southern Ijaw local council of Bayelsa State is a mere formality.
The party alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) in conjunction with the military, police and INEC had already written the result of the election.
In a statement by the Acting National Chairman of PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, the party claimed that from intelligence report it gathered, today’s election is a mere formality, pointing out that “the APC government has already written the results ahead of the election.”
According to Secondus, “Southern Ijaw is the home local government of former governor of the state, the late Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha, a known Ijaw leader. The state is politically divided into Nembe, Ogbia and Southern Ijaw; that is the home local government of the Ijaw, where Dickson hails from.
“This is the strongest home base of the PDP. PDP has been winning elections in this core Ijaw local council because it is the ancestral home of all Ijaws where the former governor and Ijaw leader DSP Alamiseigha and Dickson hails from.
“Intelligence report at our disposal shows that the election is just a mere formality as results have been written with INEC standing as the main culprit. The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Minister of Defence and Police had directed INEC to write the results in favour of APC. There is the use of Police and military personnel to intimidate voters and also scare them away as results are already written as directed.”
He said that winning the Bayelsa governorship election is part of APC plot of having a foothold in the South-South, adding, “all ministers and government officials from the zone have been directed to ensure that Bayelsa is delivered to APC at all cost.”
He called on the international community to be aware of the plot of the APC controlled Federal Government to win the Bayelsa State governorship election at all cost, warning that this has the consequences of hurting the nascent democracy in Nigeria.
Secondus said that Nigerians and the global community should hold the APC responsible should any thing happen to democracy in the country because of the APC’s quest to turn Nigeria into a one party state.
The PDP boss further warned that it was this quest of winning at all cost that was responsible for the collapse of the Second Republic.
Also yesterday, the office of the National Publicity Secretary of the party said it had observed reports in some section of the media dropping figures and claiming that Chief Olisa Metuh got the sum of N1.4 billion in addition to receiving N4 million monthly stipend from the office of the former National Security
Adviser, Sambo Dasuki.
The office in a statement signed by Metuh’s special assistant, Richard Ihediwa, claimed that the reports were completely false, mischievous and fabricated to mislead the public and derail the course of proper investigation on
issues relating to Metuh.
The statement reads in part: “For the avoidance of doubt, neither Metuh nor his office received the figures being bandied. We therefore challenge the EFCC to substantiate that Metuh received the said N1.4 billion figure as well as make public any evidence that he ever received N4 million monthly stipend from the Office of the National Security Adviser.”
“This office is deeply worried at the turnout of events since Tuesday when Metuh was arrested and detained while fictitious figures continue to be bandied against him in the media.”
