PESHAWAR - At least five people were killed and several people were injured on Tuesday morning when a bomb exploded close to a security check-post near Karkhano Market area in Peshawar, reported by private TV channel.
According to officials, a large contingent of police and security personnel had been called in to the location – which took place near Jamrud Road, the main highway that links Peshawar to Jamrud. Up to 17 people were said to have also been injured while intermittent gunfire could be heard in the area following the explosion.
The bodies and injured were being rushed to the Hayatabad Medical Complex – while additional police force was dispatched to the site of the blast. Officials said that the exact nature of the blast could not yet be ascertained, but some officials said the attack appeared to be a suicide bombing.
