ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) clinched 18 seats and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) won nine seats in the election for reserved seats of the Metropolitan Corporation of Islamabad on Saturday.
The newly elected chairmen of 50 union councils of Islamabad exercised their right to vote to elect the members to reserved seats.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) conducted the local government election on 27 seats reserved for women, peasants/workers, youth, non-Muslims and a technocrat in the Metropolitan Corporation of Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT).
In this second phase of Islamabad Metropolitan Corporation elections, there were 17 seats for women. The PML-N won 11 of these seats and the PTI secured six. Of the three peasants/workers seats, the PML-N won two and the PTI one.
As per unofficial results, the PML-N got two and the PTI one of the three seats reserved for the youth.
Of the three seats reserved for minorities, the PML-N bagged two and the PTI one. The PML-N won the sole technocrat seat.
The polling was held at the polling station of IMCB, F-8/4 from 9am to 5pm.
According to the ECP sources, 12 PML-N candidates, nine PTI candidates and four independent candidates were in the field for women seats. For the peasant seats, two candidates of the PML-N, three candidates of the PTI and five independent candidates were in the run.
PML-N fielded three candidates and the PTI two for youth seats. Eight independent candidates were also in the field.
Two candidates of the PML-N, three of the PTI and six independent candidates contested the election for the seats reserved for non-Muslims. Each party fielded a single candidate for the technocrat seat, while one independent candidate was also in the run.
The ECP had appointed Chaudhry Aleem Shahab as district returning officer and Farasat Ali Khan as returning officer for the election on reserved seats.
