AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — A left-leaning Texas watchdog group is urging federal regulators to investigate Ted Cruz's failure to fully disclose up to $1 million in loans to his 2012 Senate campaign.
Texans for Public Justice filed a complaint Tuesday with the Federal Election Commission.
The New York Times first reported the loans. They included borrowing from Goldman Sachs, where Cruz's wife works.
Cruz's 2016 presidential campaign calls the failure to report a mistake.
Texans for Public Justice is the same group that filed a complaint prompting the 2014 felony indictment of former Texas Gov. Rick Perry.
Perry left office last January and abandoned his 2016 presidential run in September. But he still faces abuse-of-power charges stemming from his publicly threatening — then exercising — a veto of state funding for public corruption prosecutors.
