KARACHI: The provincial administrations have failed to comply with SHC orders to divert pipelines pouring sewerage into Rice Canal and Dadu Canal, which causes various fatal diseases like poliovirus and hepatitis.

WHO and other health organisations have already warned that there is a high level presence of poliovirus and hepatitis in sewerage water that mixes with potable water at tail-end cities of Sindh canals at Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Dadu and others. There is more three children have been died in Thar after outbreak of water borne diseases, which has claimed the lives of at least 28 children during 12 days. Similarly negligence of concerned authorities, the innocent children of Sindh people paying the price due to lack of healthcare facilities and scarcity of potable water etc.

Daily Times has learnt that the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department third time initiated millions of drainage schemes without seeking Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) reports and concerns, which continuously making misuse of heavy funds and sheer violation of Sindh High Court orders for polluting potable water of canals for tail-enders since long.

As per details, PHE Larkana division with heavy amount of Rs 1406 million scheme and similarly heavy amount already misused for this purpose, but could not comply the Sindh High Court orders yet. The PHE department failed to stop pouring untreated, unhygienic sewerage water into Rice canal, Dadu Canal and other sub drains regularly violating court verdicts before proper treatment sources revealed. Sindh government has once again approved scheme to upgrade the existing failure sewerage system with a cost of Rs 829 million later it revised to Rs 1130 million and finally reached that revision of scheme up to Rs 1406 million.

It is obvious that heavy corruption of incompetent and ill planning of concerned department and district administration in the home district of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto. It is learnt that improper and substandard work is being witnessed no any long run planning have been made to streamline existing sewerage system of Larkana city like other districts in province. This scribe also witnessed newly developed roads with cost of billions of rupees under Larkana Development Package (LDP) have been destroyed during current ongoing work of sewerage scheme and several roads were further excavated and turned city into ruins.

Sourced revealed that before executing scheme of drainage division, the concerned departments had put objection on scheme and demanded the water treatment plant before falling sewerage into the Sim Nalas (seepage drain) located at Bakrani station near Mashori Sharif, which further falls into Rice Canal. The court had already directed the district administration to divert sewerage pipelines from Rice Canal and Dadu Canal, where the thousands of people and livestock at tail-end consuming water from canals, which may cause of several water born diseases and Hepatitis A, B, C,D and other fatal illnesses.
