LAHORE: University of Education’s (UoE) 4th convocation awarded gold medals to 112 students of bachelors and masters and conferred 44 PhD and 153 MPhil degrees upon students on Monday at the Expo Centre.
Punjab Governor Rafique Rajwana was the chief guest on the occasion. Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) Chairman Nizamud Din, UoE Vice Chancellor Raufe Azam, Controller Examinations Ashiq Hussain Dogar, Registrar Manzoom Akhter, Government College University (GCU) Vice Chancellor (VC) Hasan Amir Shah, principals of campuses, directors of divisions, members of the syndicate and academic council, faculty members and a large number of students along with their parents were present on the occasion.
20 PhDs in Education, 14 in Urdu, two in Economics and Psychology and one in each subject of English, History, Commerce, Political Science, Punjabi and Chemistry were awarded. The UoE consists of 10 campuses in three divisions and 44 affiliated colleges all over Punjab.
The university offers 41 programmes including Bachelor, Post Graduate Diploma, BS Honours, Master and MS/M.Phil and PhDs. Currently, 21,000 students are enrolled at UoE campuses and divisions while 9,000 students are studying at UoE affiliated colleges across the province.
Punjab Governor Rafique Rajwana said that the progress and development of the country is not possible with provisions in education, especially by promoting the role of teachers towards quality education. He said that education was the basic right of every human being and the government was keen in providing cheap and good quality education to every citizen.
Rajwana said that the nation’s education must be knowledge-based and education without knowledge was meaningless. The main responsibility of the government was to provide better education and proper job opportunities to students so that they could prepare themselves for future challenges, he added.
The multi-dimensional programmes and other prosperous schemes like China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) were continuing under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif. He advised the students to practice their education for the development and progress of Pakistan.
The Punjab governor also appealed the owners and administration of private educational institutions to provide better opportunities of higher education to poor students, as it was their moral duty. He said that it was a matter of honour for him to attend the convocation and he was thankful to the UoE VC.
UoE VC Raufe Azam on the occasion gave a detailed briefing about the university, its academic activities, the prominent statistics and other related matters. He thanked the Punjab governor for sparing his precious time for the convocation.
