ISLAMABAD: A Pakistani student who went to Australia for higher education died on Thursday after meeting his family at a local hospital in Melbourne. Hassan Asif, 25 years old, who came to Australia on a student visa has been diagnosed with terminal cancer and told that he has just weeks to live, reported a private news channel. His mother and brother wanted to be with him in his final days but they were refused visas and the decision sparked an outcry with the Melbourne city Mission homeless refuge that is caring for Asif urging Immigration Minister Peter Dutton to “show some compassion”. Dutton said that it was the “right decision” to refuse the visas but within half an hour he had changed his mind. Melbourne city Mission’s Sherri Bruinhout said that Asif cried when he heard the news. However, funeral prayer of the deceased would be offered on Thursday.
